The radio today was filled of news of more cancelled events across the country for the coming months, more deaths to add to the toll for the UK and generally more gloom.
However, a letter came through today from the local council to get the ball rolling on Mums small business grant, so that was a light in the dark.
Day 8:
This morning I woke at 7:57am, 8:34am, 9:14am and finally 9:57am. Maybe this was the first step to finally breaking the 9:10am loop! I felt different when I got up, happier or lighter or something, but I knew today was going to be one of the good days.
After breakfast I sat in the garden whilst I waited on 2 loads of washing to complete. Although the breeze was chilly and the sun weak, it was pleasant to be back outside feeling the light on my face. Sadly, though it wasn’t long before the clouds rolled in and made it too cold to stay out. So whilst the washing blew on the line I headed back indoors to shellac my nails.
Mum came back from her walk with Buddy when I was half way through, so she cooked us some par-baked rolls for lunch. Once my nails were complete I started on a job I've been meaning to do for a little while. Has anyone ever noticed how dusty under the bed gets? It might just be me being gross, but it’s really awkward to get the hoover under there. Whilst the bedding was off I took the mattress from the base and removed some of the slats and vacuumed every nook and cranny under there. Also, I took the opportunity to reorganise the items I store under there. It was actually very therapeutic.
At 4:45pm the bedroom was complete and it was time to take Buddy for his evening stroll before tea. We decided to head to Daubuz Moor, a small wooded area behind the city’s bowling alley. There were quite a few people around, I guess with the social distancing there is going to be more people in smaller areas when they aren’t allowed to go too far. I was pleased to see that most were keeping away from each other, and moving to the edges of the path to stop and allow others to pass. Only a couple of owners had their dogs off the lead, but most had them under good control.
We did a couple of laps around, enjoying the change of scenery and watching Buddy pick up all the new scents. He even had a little paddle in the River Allen. We found a rope swing, and the seat was a tad small but I swung anyway. Laughing the whole time. On the second circuit, we spotted some squirrels in the trees. We managed to watch them for about 2 minutes before Buddy cottoned on and went full on terrier, practically climbing the trees to reach these furry interlopers. We walked back home past the cathedral and down the quiet high street.
When we got back and the dinner was cooking Mum helpfully put the fresh linen on my bed (no matter how hard I try I never make it as well, she makes it the best) and I finished the last 12% of my book. After dinner it was time for a blisteringly hot shower and some television during which time I wrote this instalment of the Isolation Diaries.
I really hope the good mood persists into tomorrow, it sure makes for a more contented and productive time in lock down.
