It has been a week since my last post. As the weeks pass in isolation, the day-to-day activities are less varied. This doesn’t make for interesting writing, let alone reading, so I will be continuing with this piece on a weekly basis going forward. Unless something of note happens.
From the news it seems that with this lockdown extension there has been an increase in people flouting the isolation guidance. I’ve tried to fathom why this could possibly be, and have come up with nothing logical. After quarantining for 3+ weeks I can’t understand why people would waste this by going back out earlier than government guidelines suggest.
The idiocy of people astounds me.
Day 29 - 35 (Week 5)
This week was a mixed bag. For the first 3 days we were blessed with glorious weather, providing the perfect backdrop for endless days, whiling away the hours reading in the garden. The summer scents of sun cream, BBQ’s and freshly laundered washing blowing on the breeze. That urge to consume only salads, ice creams and cold water in a bid to be healthy and cool down. That feeling, reminiscent of childhood days spent on the beach, of a steaming hot shower and fluffy soft towel on sun kissed skin.
Unfortunately, these idyllic days were followed by 4 miserable and grey ones. As the clouds rolled in the good vibes rolled out. Too chilly to sit out, therefore confined to the house and indoor tasks to pass the time. I can tell you, even as an introvert it can be difficult to kill endless hours inside four walls. There is only so much reading, gaming and watching TV you can do before the state of mind sinks and sadly the forecast is set to remain bleak for the coming week. Luckily, there have been some weak rays of sunshine pushing through the shrouded sky in the evenings, enabling some pleasant and mood-lifting dog walks.
I am surprised it has taken 5 weeks for the feelings to begin to churn. I know others have been on somewhat of an emotional rollercoaster since COVID-19, and all the uncertainty, reached the UK. But until this week of crummy weather, I have been enjoying and making the most of this unexpected hiatus in my life. I’m determined tomorrow will be a fresh positive start. New day, new week, new mindset.
