It appears that the news is full of good things today.
England’s Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty, believes that the coronavirus crisis in the UK may have peaked, and the curve may finally have started to flatten with under 800 deaths per day for the last four days.
But the real man taking the headlines by storm, is Captain Tom Moore. The 99 year-old WWII hero decided to raise money for the NHS by walking 100 lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday this month. His mission has been well publicised and his first target of £1,000 was smashed in only 24-hours. As donations continued to flood in the target was raised to £500,000, but after Piers Morgan contributed £10,000 to the cause more and more money began to fly in. At the time of writing this the total raised has reached over £9.9 million for the NHS.
I salute you Captain Moore, and all those who have donated. If you would like to donate to this wonderful cause and cheer on this man who has fought, and is still fighting, for his country please follow the link here.
Day 22
The first day of week 4 started like all the others before it. However, after breakfast I was setting out for a run, something I never thought I would do. I am most definitely not a runner, the last time I ran was July last year for a charity 5k event. But a nomination is a challenge and I wasn’t going to chicken out on doing something out of my comfort zone for a good cause.
I had mapped a route the night before that took me on a 5k lap around the city, with my gear on and headphones in, I headed out. Starting out at midday probably wasn’t the wisest idea I’d ever had. Although there was a very strong and cold wind, the sun was beating down on me as my feet beat the pavements.
45 minutes later I arrived back at my front door, looking rather worse for wear and sweating profusely. I’m not going to pretend, I didn’t run the whole way, but I power walked when I wasn’t and I really tried my best. I did feel good for doing it, although the stiffness and regrets soon began to set in.
After some lunch I spent the afternoon in the garden, fully clothed and wrapped in a blanket reading my book. There was so much heat in the sun, and it was a shame the wind was bitter. Sadly, it looks like the weather is set to make a turn now, the forecasts show rain and even the possibility it might become a bit stormy. I’m glad I can say I made the most of the sunshine whilst it was here, and hope that it comes back again very soon. I think lock down will be a very different story without it.
