Isolation of a Self-confessed Introvert - Day 16-21

Updated: May 6, 2020

A whole week has passed since my last post, the whole of week 3 in isolation. This isn’t because I’ve been lazy, it’s because not a great deal has happened. It’s been the Easter Bank Holiday.

In the news, Boris Johnson has been released from hospital. Most of the country is wishing him a speedy recovery but I see on the socials the keyboard warriors are still trying to hammer home their point.

In the local news, some of the excuses the Cornwall & Devon police have been given for why people are travelling and trying to get into the county. Published on Cornwall Live website, some have to be read to be believed.

Day 16 - 21

Thursday, Friday and Saturday were amazingly scorching and beautiful days. Safe to say these days were spent in the garden working on the tan and the reading list, and the evenings were spent playing PlayStation accompanied by that famous summer smell of aftersun lotion.

Then Easter Sunday came and the clouds rolled in. After an easy start it was time to do the biannual job of swapping over my wardrobe and chest of drawers. I don’t have a great deal of storage space in my bedroom so a lot of clothes and shoes are kept in plastic boxes until the season requires. By 3:30pm, four hours later, I had successfully packed all my winter heavy clothes away and a fresh summer wardrobe was complete. Me and Mum had a late lunch, and then headed out for a walk in the sunshine that had suddenly emerged for the early evening.

Easter Monday started off sunny but with a very cool and quite ferocious breeze. I decided it was a good day for catching up on my television programmes I had been neglecting, and writing my most recent book review.

Afterwards, the wind seemed to have died down a little, so I spent the afternoon in the garden. The evening was spent relaxing and watching a movie. I think all the sunshine had finally taken it’s toll and I was pleasantly exhausted and wholly ready for bed after a few chapters of my new book.

Quicker than a flash, it was Tuesday, and week 3 in lock down was concluding. It’s strange to think only 21 days ago I was at work. The world was starting to go crazy but my day-to-day life was still normal.

The days of isolation have simultaneously flown by and seemed like an eternity. I can’t remember what it was like to get up, get ready and go to work 5-days a week and look forward to freedom at the weekend. Now, every day is freedom but we’re not free at all. It makes for a very strange world to live in right now.

Day 21 was spent watching movies, writing and generally having the ultimate duvet day. When lock down started I honestly thought every day would be of the duvet variety, but this was my first proper one in my whole time off and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I’m glad I made good use of a quiet day as I was then chosen by my friend, Hannah, for the new challenge taking Instagram by storm. “Run 5. Donate 5. Nominate 5”…so I guess that’ll be me running 5k in the very near future.
