Isolation of a Self-confessed Introvert - Day 36-42 (week 6)

Updated: May 13, 2020

Probably the only newsworthy item for this week is that Carrie and Boris welcomed their son - Wilfred Laurie Nicholas Johnson. Named so after their Grandfathers, but the really touching point is the reason they chose the third name, Nicholas. They decided to honour the two doctor’s that treated Boris when he was hospitalised with COVID-19, leading the nation to soften slightly…even if it was just for a day.

Well played BoJo, well played!

Day 36 - 42 (Week 6)

The last 7 days have probably been the laziest I’ve had for the longest time. Back to back slushy movies courtesy of the Hallmark Channel. Only moving to make cups of tea and eat, and I haven’t done my daily exercise or left the house once.

I’m sure for some this would be a huge blow to the state of their mental health, however, I’ve found the opposite for myself. Last week was the most difficult week I’d had since the beginning of isolation and I found I could only put it down to getting stuck in a rut. In only a few short weeks my isolation had become routined and regimented, and when I didn’t feel like going for a walk or having lunch or even writing this piece, I felt really guilty. Which of course is absolutely ridiculous, but I felt it nonetheless.

In fact, this lock down seems to be drowning people in guilt. Mum guilt at not having some new activity for their child every day. Parental guilt about not managing to keep up with the demands of homeschooling. Furloughed staff guilt that they can’t be at work. Workers guilt that they are at work, when their friends and colleagues aren’t…and on and on it goes.

Should we really be feeling all this? Shouldn’t we just be taking each day as it comes. The good, the bad and the lazy. So, it turns out that for me throwing the “rulebook” out the window, and taking a week long duvet day seems to kick start my good mood again. I’m eating what I want when I want, enjoying reading and writing again and who knows, I might even leave the house at some point too!
