REVIEW - The Angel (DS Imogen Grey #3)

When Gabriel Webb fit arrested he openly admits to starting a fire within a disused signal box, but when the police reveal a burned body was found in the building Gabriel resigns himself to a life in prison for manslaughter.

DS Imogen Grey is convinced there’s more to the case than meets the eye, and sets out to prove her theory with little help from her partner DS Adrian Miles, who is busy battling problems of his own.

When a vicious double murder is reported Grey and Miles start to make connections between the two cases, but will they find proof in time to save Gabriel from a sentence he might not deserve?

This is the third instalment in this series, and again I found myself completely enthralled. Alternating between the points of view of Gabriel, Imogen and Adrian keeps this thriller fast paced, and I found myself repeatedly being held to the curse of “just one more” at the end of each chapter. Luckily for me, and my sleep deprivation, they’re fairly short.

I have grown increasingly fond of Detective series over the last couple of years, as opposed to standalone’s you get to build a real connection with the main protagonists. In this case it has been enjoyable to witness the changes in the relationship of Imogen and Adrian. The partners grow closer with each book and the sarcastic quips and camaraderie between them often has me chuckling to myself. Not something that can always be said of the crime thriller genre.

The writing as always is very good and well thought out, with both minor and major twists in the plot it amazes me how Diamond herself keeps track, with cleverly hidden details throughout that the reader doesn’t take into consideration before the end.

As concluding chapters go this one was a curveball to say the least, but it will definitely keep readers intrigued for book four. I for one can’t wait!!
