Single Mum Louise meets David in a bar and they instantly hit it off. After the sparks fly and lead to a lingering kiss, David confesses he is married and walks out of Louise’s life.
A few days later he unknowingly walks back into her life, in the shape of her new boss.
When Louise knocks a lady off her feet she is surprised to find that it is David’s wife, Adele. To make amends they head for coffee where they strike up quite a bond.
Finding herself caught up in some serious marital issues, Louise is unsure who she can trust.
There are secrets here that go deeper than anyone could imagine. Will Louise be better off leaving them buried?
Firstly, I would like to say that this will most definitely not be my last book by Pinborough.
Secondly, this review is not going to be very detailed at all. There is no way I can do this book justice without presenting spoilers, and that is something I wouldn’t do. You’re going to have to read it and let the book speak for itself, but I will give it a brief run down.
Alternating chapters are used to tell this story from the points of view of Adele and Louise. Accounts from the past are also scattered in amongst the main timeframe to help the reader build a clearer picture of the characters. The three main protagonists were intriguing, and at one time or another I felt myself judging, suspecting and disliking them all.
The writing itself is extremely well done. After a slightly slow start I was hooked, and often to be found wandering around the house doing things one handed so I could read my Kindle at all times.
This story is dark, disturbing and dramatic, if somewhat unbelievable. If you are often sceptical, like me, read this book with a large pinch of salt…but make sure you read it!
