After another disastrous internet date, DS Manon Bradshaw lies in bed listening to the low murmurs emitting from her police radio. When she hears reports of a missing woman all thoughts of sleep vanish as she rushes to the crime scene.
Edith Hind, 24-year-old Cambridge post-graduate, is missing much to the shock of her well-connected family. No one seems to understand why anyone would want to harm Edith.
The whole police force is aware that this case is going to be big, but as the hours tick away will they find Edith dead or alive?
On first starting this book I wasn’t sure whether I was going to like it. Although written from several different characters’ points of view it still seems to have the air of a third person narrative, which I struggled to get my head around at the offset. However, a few chapters in I became accustomed to this style and am pleased to say it didn’t affect my enjoyment.
As this title is the first of a continuing series the character development was thorough. Although I did like this level of detail I found it did often detract from the main storyline. Due, in part, to this I considered the mystery aspect to be somewhat lacking and ultimately the resolution of the story was underwhelming.
I would still highly recommend this book, but more so if you relish character progression from a series over a gripping whodunit.
