I’ve decided to keep this post extremely brief, as I wish I’d kept my stay in Naples.

I’d heard mixed reviews on the city before my visit but was keen to form my own opinions, and form them I did. On arrival at the train station I very quickly managed to work out the metro system. My nearest metro stop was still a twenty-minute walk from my apartment though. A walk that took me through some of the busiest streets I had encountered so far, with no pavements to step on to dodge the crazy motorcyclists. Finally at my apartment and checked in I found myself not really wanting to leave again but I needed to go to the supermarket to buy some supplies. Shopping bought and back home I was eager to make myself a restorative cup of tea. However, on filling the pan I realised that the hob didn’t work. After a phone call to the owner and two visits from the handyman I had a working cooker but a mini fridge in my bedroom, it appeared the issue was the electrical socket.

The next day I decided to venture out again to visit Castel dell’Ovo, which according to my research, offered great views of the bay and Vesuvius. Grabbing the few hours of forecast sunshine I headed out. Unfortunately, the views weren’t as spectacular as I had hoped. The viewing platform was better situated for looking out to see and the castle itself somewhat blocked the bay and the mountain was shrouded in clouds. From this vantage, I could see the promised incoming storm so I made my way back down through the castle and into town. I didn’t quite make it before the heavens opened, so I took shelter al Piazza del Plebiscito before going home.

The following day was torrential rain and storms so I chose to stay in and catch up on some reading and generally have a chilled-out day. Feeling rested and relaxed, that evening I packed up my case ready to move on to Capri the next day.
